Kris Kristofferson, the legendary country songwriter and acclaimed actor, has passed away at the age of 88.

kristofferson passed away at his home in Maui, Hawaii, on Saturday, September 28, as confirmed by his spokeswoman, Ebie McFarland, He was 88 years old.

According to McFarland, Kristofferson died peacefully, surrounded by family, though no cause of death was provided.

Beginning in the late 1960s, the Brownsville, Texas native penned iconic songs such as “Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down,” “Help Me Make It Through the Night,” “For the Good Times,” and “Me and Bobby McGee.” While Kristofferson was a talented singer himself, many of his most famous songs gained recognition through other artists’ performances.
