Shawn Mendes is opening up to his audience about his relationship with Camila Cabello and addressing the recent surge of gossip surrounding their breakup.

The discussion began in late September when Mendes shared on the Jay Shetty Podcast that he and Cabello have been “preserving [their] private little fire of love for each other” despite their split in 2023, which followed their first breakup in 2021. A few days later, a fan commented on a tweet quoting his podcast, saying, “they don’t play about each other,” to which Mendes retweeted, agreeing, “no we don’t” on October 2 2024.

A few hours later, he returned to social media to explain his engagement with the fan’s comment. “I guess, to be honest, it came from a place of being a little annoyed with all the projection over the last few months about us,” Mendes wrote, referencing Cabello. “I usually handle all the ‘noise’ pretty well, but lately, it’s been kind of bugging me 🤷🏻‍♂️ just feeling human, I guess.”

In a follow-up tweet, he acknowledged that his response might spark further speculation, but he wanted to be open with his fans about how he feels. “Part of me just wanted to address it and actually have a real honest relationship with you guys about how it feels from my side,” he said.

Mendes didn’t go into specifics, but there has been significant chatter about his and Cabello’s relationship this year, especially regarding rumors involving Sabrina Carpenter. After Mendes and Cabello initially split, he was linked to Carpenter in early 2023, shortly before reconciling with Cabello. Their renewed relationship lasted only a few months, and Cabello later confirmed their second breakup on *Call Her Daddy*.

Fans have speculated that Carpenter addresses this situation in her album *Short n’ Sweet*, particularly in the song “Coincidence,” which contains lyrics that suggest a complicated love triangle.

Despite the noise, Mendes emphasized that he and Cabello work hard to maintain a good relationship. “I’ll be the first to text her, she’ll be the first to text me,” he noted on the Jay Shetty Podcast, highlighting their “immense honesty” and “over-communication.” He concluded, “As long as we’re good, all the noise is just noise.”
