Ariana Grande has now joined the Pink Pony Club officially. During Chappell Roan’s performance at the 2024 Gov Ball in New York City, where Roan appeared on stage with her skin painted green in a complete Statue of Liberty ensemble, the 26-year-old musician sparked a wave of memes. Many of these memes made reference to the upcoming Wicked films, a franchise in which Grande stars. She later seized this opportunity to express her admiration for Roan.

On Monday (June 10), a day after the festival set by the artist known as “Good Luck, Babe!”, Grande posted a meme. It replaced Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba with a picture of Roan, who was similarly jade-skinned as she performed on stage, in a scene from the Wicked trailer. In the meme, the character Glinda, played by Grande, exclaims, “You’re green!” to which the Wicked Witch/Roan simply responds, “I am.”

During her set, Roan declared, “We want liberty, freedom, and justice for all,” while gazing directly into the festival’s cameras. She then dedicated “My Kink Is Karma” to the Biden Administration, adding, “When you achieve that, that’s when I’ll come.”

Despite the Thanksgiving premiere of the first Wicked film still being months away, Grande released the music video for “The Boy Is Mine” on Friday (June 7). A few days later, she posted a clip of herself applying makeup for the video using products from her R.E.M. Beauty line.
