Babyface Ray Discusses New Album, Clearing the ‘GoldenEye’ Beat, & His Encounter with Rich Paul

The Detroit rapper recently released one of the best rap albums of the year.

It’s been six days, and I still can’t stop playing “Groupies & Goofies.” Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, grab my phone, and listen to it a few times before going back to sleep. It’s hands down one of the best rap album intros this year, right up there with the opening tracks from Future & Metro Boomin’s recent collaborations. When Babyface Ray’s team sent over his new album, The Kid That Did, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the intro immediately drew me in.

As I explored the rest of the album, I realized this is Babyface Ray’s most ambitious work to date. He sounds more confident than ever, and with that confidence comes bold musical choices. Songs like “I Need Some Motivation” and “Delusional” showcase his range, while tracks like “Watching My Page,” “Nights Like This,” and “Legacy” reveal a more personal side of the Detroit rapper.
