Rapper Gunna was also specially recognized during an evening dedicated to the “intersection of activism and music.”

LL COOL J and Usher were honored Thursday night at the Black Music Action Coalition’s (BMAC) fourth annual gala. According to BMAC co-founder, president, and CEO Willie “Prophet” Stiggers, the event focuses on “the intersection of activism and music,” rather than recognizing record sales, streaming numbers, or other achievements.

Stiggers further emphasized, “While many are turning down the volume on social, racial, and economic justice, we’re amplifying our efforts and highlighting the positive and meaningful impact the music industry has had on society. That’s the inspiration behind this event.”
